YarnDraft — End User License Agreement
Copyright (c) 2026 YarnDraft Studio. All rights reserved.

IN SHORT — a summary for convenience. It is not part of the Agreement and the
sections below govern.

  YarnDraft is free to use, including for commercial work you sell. What you
  write with it is yours. You may not resell or repackage the app itself. The
  engine code it exports into your game is MIT licensed so that you can ship
  it. This is beta software and comes with no warranty. A newer version may
  carry different terms, but those do not reach back to the copy you already
  have.

YarnDraft End User License Agreement (Free Beta)

Last updated: 2026-09-20

This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between you ("User", "you") and YarnDraft Studio, an independent developer based in Hungary ("we", "us", or "our"), for the use of the YarnDraft software application, including any related installers, portable packages, documentation, updates, and associated components ("Software").

By installing, copying, downloading, running, or otherwise using YarnDraft, you agree to be bound by this Agreement. If you do not agree to this Agreement, do not install or use the Software.

1. Beta Status

YarnDraft is currently provided as a free beta version. This means the Software may contain bugs, incomplete features, breaking changes, missing documentation, or other issues. Features, file formats, integrations, and compatibility may change before a stable release.

We may modify, suspend, discontinue, or replace the beta version at any time.

2. License Grant

Subject to your compliance with this Agreement, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use YarnDraft during the beta period, revocable only as set out in Section 17 (Termination).

You may use YarnDraft for personal, educational, internal business, freelance, professional, and commercial creative work, including commercial game, story, writing, and narrative design projects.

This Agreement does not transfer ownership of YarnDraft to you. YarnDraft is licensed, not sold.

3. Your Content and Project Ownership

You retain ownership of the stories, dialogue, flow charts, characters, variables, puzzles, notes, assets, exports, project files, and other creative or project content that you create with YarnDraft ("User Content").

YarnDraft project data is stored locally on your own device unless you choose to use a sync, version-control, export, AI, MCP, or other integration that sends data to a third-party service.

We do not claim ownership over your User Content merely because it was created, edited, organized, exported, or processed using YarnDraft.

You are responsible for keeping backups of your User Content. The Software may contain beta bugs or compatibility changes that could affect project files.

4. Exported Engine Runtime and Generated Code

When you export a project to a game engine, YarnDraft writes engine source code into your export bundle. For Unreal Engine this is a plugin containing a C++ runtime, a Blueprint player, and an editor importer.

That generated code is licensed to you separately under the MIT License, not under this Agreement. Its text is included in each export as Plugins/YarnDraft/LICENSE, and the same text ships in the application package under templates/.

You may therefore compile it into a game, modify it, fork it, and distribute it in a commercial product on the MIT License's terms. The restriction in Section 5(b) on redistributing the Software does not apply to the generated engine code.

Your exported project data — story.json, copied assets, and anything else the export writes from your project — is User Content under Section 3 and remains yours.

5. Restrictions

You may not, and may not permit others to:

a. reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, modify, adapt, translate, or attempt to derive the source code, internal structure, algorithms, or underlying ideas of the Software, except where such restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
b. sell, rent, lease, sublicense, redistribute, repackage, resell, or commercially host the Software as a standalone product or service without our prior written permission;
c. remove, obscure, or alter copyright, trademark, attribution, or proprietary notices in the Software;
d. use the Software to develop or distribute malware, spyware, unauthorized surveillance tools, or other harmful software;
e. bypass technical limitations, license checks, security controls, update checks, or access restrictions in the Software;
f. use the Software in a way that violates applicable laws or third-party rights.

6. Redistribution

You may share a link to the official YarnDraft download page or official release page.

You may not redistribute the installer, MSI package, portable ZIP, modified builds, or repackaged versions of YarnDraft without our prior written permission, unless we separately publish written redistribution terms that allow it.

7. AI Features and User-Provided API Keys

YarnDraft may include optional AI-related features. These features may allow you to connect external AI providers using your own API keys, credentials, endpoints, or accounts.

If you configure an AI provider, you understand and agree that selected prompts, project content, dialogue, story data, metadata, or other information may be sent to that external AI provider as necessary for the feature you choose to use.

You are responsible for:
a. reviewing and accepting the terms, pricing, privacy policy, and data-processing rules of any external AI provider you connect;
b. protecting your own API keys and credentials;
c. monitoring your own API usage and costs;
d. deciding what project data may be sent to external AI providers.

We are not responsible for third-party AI output, third-party service availability, third-party pricing, third-party data handling, or charges incurred through your own API keys or accounts.

8. MCP Server and External Tools

YarnDraft may include or support MCP server functionality or integrations with external tools and editors.

When you enable MCP or external tool integrations, those tools may read, write, process, or transmit project data depending on their permissions and configuration. You are responsible for understanding the behavior and permissions of any external tool, MCP client, MCP server, plugin, script, or integration that you connect to YarnDraft.

9. Sync and Version-Control Integrations

YarnDraft may support synchronization or version-control workflows using external services, including GitHub, GitLab, Azure, or similar providers.

If you enable such integrations, your project files, metadata, history, commits, repository data, or related content may be transmitted to and stored by those third-party services. Your use of such services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

You are responsible for the repositories, credentials, access tokens, permissions, branches, commits, conflicts, and backups associated with your sync or version-control workflow.

10. Debug Logs and Diagnostic Information

YarnDraft may create local debug logs or diagnostic files to help identify errors, crashes, performance issues, and unexpected behavior.

These logs are intended for debugging and support purposes. Depending on the issue and your configuration, logs may include technical information such as timestamps, application version, operating system information, error messages, file paths, configuration details, and limited contextual information related to the operation that failed.

Unless otherwise stated in the privacy policy at https://yarndraft.com/privacy/ or unless you manually send logs to us, debug logs are stored locally on your device.

Before sending debug logs to us or to a third-party service, you should review them and remove any confidential, personal, sensitive, proprietary, or project-specific information that you do not want to share.

11. Update Notifications

YarnDraft may check whether a newer version is available and may display an update notification. YarnDraft does not automatically install updates unless a future version clearly states otherwise.

You are responsible for downloading and installing updates from an official source.

12. Third-Party Components

The Software may include third-party libraries, frameworks, tools, or open-source components. Such components may be subject to their own license terms. Where required, third-party notices or license information may be provided with the Software or documentation.

For this release, those notices are included in the package as THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt.

Nothing in this Agreement limits your rights under applicable open-source licenses for third-party components.

13. Intellectual Property

YarnDraft, including its software code, user interface, design, application name, documentation, workflows, icons, branding, and related materials, is owned by YarnDraft Studio or its licensors and is protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Except for the limited license granted in this Agreement, no rights are granted to you in YarnDraft.

14. Feedback

If you provide feedback, bug reports, ideas, suggestions, feature requests, or similar information about YarnDraft, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use, modify, publish, and incorporate that feedback into YarnDraft or related products without compensation or obligation to you.

This does not give us ownership of your User Content.

15. No Warranty

YarnDraft is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, compatibility, security, and error-free operation.

Because YarnDraft is beta software, you should not rely on it as the sole copy, storage location, or backup system for important work.

16. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, YarnDraft Studio shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of business, loss of goodwill, loss of data, corrupted files, project loss, service interruption, third-party service charges, or costs of replacement software or services.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the Software or this Agreement shall not exceed the amount you paid directly to us for the Software during the twelve months before the claim arose. Because the beta version is provided free of charge, this amount may be zero.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations of liability. In such cases, the limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

17. Termination

This Agreement is effective until terminated.

You may terminate this Agreement at any time by uninstalling and deleting YarnDraft.

We may terminate or suspend your license if you violate this Agreement. Upon termination, you must stop using the Software and delete all copies of it in your possession or control.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including ownership, restrictions, disclaimers, limitation of liability, feedback, and governing law.

18. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Agreement is governed by the laws of Hungary, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Unless mandatory consumer protection rules provide otherwise, the courts of Hungary shall have jurisdiction over disputes arising out of or relating to this Agreement.

19. Changes to This Agreement

We may update this Agreement from time to time. The updated version may be included with a new release of YarnDraft or published on an official website or release page.

Your continued use of YarnDraft after an updated Agreement becomes available means you accept the updated terms.

An updated Agreement governs the release it is published with, and later releases. It does not apply retroactively to a version you downloaded earlier, which remains governed by the Agreement distributed with it. A copy of the Agreement in force for your copy is included in every release package as LICENSE.txt, so you can always check which terms you have.
