Variables

In the Variables view you define global game state: flags, counters, text values.

Variable sets

  • Variables are organized into sets (e.g. “Gameplay”, “Story”).
  • Add, rename, delete sets; reorder by drag.
  • Full name in export: SetName.variable.

Variable fields

FieldMeaning
NameIdentifier within the set
DescriptionEditor note
Typeboolean, integer, string
DefaultStarting value in simulation / export

Filters

At the top of the list:

  • Free-text search
  • Set dropdown
  • Type dropdown
  • Source dropdown: stored, inventory link, task link, clue link

CSV export

Export CSV saves the variables shown in the list (filters apply) with their id, set, name, qualified name, type, source, default value and description — handy for reviewing them in a spreadsheet. There is no variable import; the file is for reading.

Derived variables

Some cards automatically link to variables:

SourceExample
Task cardTasks.<taskId>
Clue cardClues.<clueId>
Inventory linkLinked item state

These are readable on Instruction cards but cannot be overwritten directly (the card is the source of truth).

Use on the flow chart

  • Condition: branch on variable value
  • Instruction: change value
  • Simulated player: seed overrides for testing

Duplicate names

The app warns if two variables get conflicting qualified names.
